Our ongoing work with Calamity Janes resulted in the privilege to work with the women on the artwork for their debut, self-titled album. While this LP will be primarily released in digital format, a limited run of CDs was produced to enable the band to connect with fans who simply prefer physical media. With this idea in mind, HC2 proposed a design that suggested the final product had been delivered via letter carrier, or perhaps dropped off by one of the band members in a fan’s mailbox. The front and back of the CD are clad in a cardboard graphic with a significant tear down the middle revealing the CD contained therein; branded with a logo we had previously created for the group. This composition reinforces a narrative whereby an eager fan couldn’t wait to open the CD packaging with the proper tools. With track listings, copyright, credits and website information scrawled in a magic marker font, the final assemblage conveys something that was sent directly from the band to a very special fan. Multi-layered and textured, simple yet deserving of your attention. A fine representation of the work that went into the band’s debut album.
